I’m always telling my sister who lives in Jersey about your channel. I grew up in Jersey in a little beach town and watching your channel feels a little bit like home! Especially when you say water… I mean wooter 🤣 Much love to you and sweet Tuck!

It's a "La Nina" year, the water off Peru is unusually cold which results in a high pressure cell in the northern pacific which rotates clockwise and pulls the jet stream up over Alaska then down through Alberta into the midwest pulling cold air into the eastern half of the US causing unusually cold, wet weather. My brassica greens didn't do well. It was not only super chilly in April but we had NO SUN so the plants didn't grow much, but as if on a timer decided to bolt anyway so there are these small plants that never got the big lush leaves I got the year before. One plant that is not bolting is the "Old Tokyo" Komatsuna I got from Baker Creek, the Yod Fah Chinese Broccoli al so hasn't bolted, but is quite small and doesn't seem to tolerate the colder temperatures as well as other brassicas.

The Bok Choy seeds from the box store never produced any big white stems like grocery store Bok Choy and just formed a single tall stalk with flowers on the top. I can try again in the fall, last year blight took out my heirloom tomatoes in the second half of August. I tried starting tomatoes from seed last year for the first time and had great success, tomatoes are not hard (peppers and eggplant are a whole other story). However I found the heirlooms from Baker Creek are pretty blight sensitive. This year I added that Chef's Choice Orange that was recommended on this channel along with "Independence Day" because I want to get some tomatoes as soon as possible. The Thornburn's Terra Cotta was good last year but all went down with blight in mid August. The seed pack from last year was still good this spring and I planted another one along with starting Carbon and Green Giant. I also picked up something called Pink Bumblebee and First Lady at the garden center to see what these varieties I had never heard of turn out.

Tuck snacking on the asparagus is one of the most adorable moments caught on camera.

I love the way Tuck looked at you telling him to save some for others. Tuck says “no way these are mine”. That look was priceless. Your garden is fantastic. Love the fruit trees.

My toy poodle (12 years old now) loves to dig up a carrot from the garden and eat it. She hasn't gotten into my asparagus bed yet. I love watching Tuck scouring through the food forest. All I can think is that if you had them both in your food forest, I don't think you would get much left for yourself. LOL

My friends recently adopted a pit bull from an animal rescue. Turns out he absolutely loves vegetables and fruits. Carrots, Bell pepper, Tomato, Oranges, the core of a pineapple, There was a wilting left over salad in the fridge (no dressing) mostly lettuce and fresh zucchini, , , I put that in his bowl and he finished it off. Their other dog thinks she's missing out on treats, but when offered she turns them down. I'm thinking when I'm ready for a dog, I'll go to the pound with vegetables in hand, and find me one that loves those treats. 🙂

'We get to do this' is so accurate. Whole cold winter I was getting overwhelmed at work and was loosing it. And theese days I'm so good. People ask me what's changed and I tell them 'After this I get to go home and plant my garden'. The best therapy there is :)

Your place is looking awesome again this year. Thanks for being the inspiration to get me started 7 years ago! Cold hardy food forests unite!

Great video as always James! I'd be very interested in seeing a vid or two about you actually harvesting, processing, or cooking all of your produce. Like what do you actually do with it all? Big love for Tuck!

Your garden/ forest is lovely. We have a decent sized garden in our suburban backyard in Texas, but I watch your videos with my kids and now they want a food forest.
