Pretty courageous of the mechanics to push the bus out where it wouldn't start other assets on fire. They deserve thanks!

How much will it cost the VTA to replace this bus? How many gas powered buses catch
on fire and are a total loss? What is the environmental cost of putting out the fire and of
its disposal?

This happens more than you think. These things are dangerous.

This is why, San Mateo County Transit District (SamTrans), decided to prematurely retire their, 2018 and 2020 Proterra Catalyst BE40 buses numbered, 725-734 in 2021. Because, they suffered numerous issues.

Climate activists should come protest this. Chain themselves to the runways.

And EV busses are currently being rushed into service what a nightmare.

Folks.... Think long and hard before placing your EV in your garage or under a critical structure. EVs (not charging) have spontaneously caught fire and IMPORTANTLY are far more difficult to stop burning compared to their petrol counterparts . Also, before buying an EV, check your home insurance policy against any EV coverage restrictions as it will not be about replacing the car but potentially your entire home, . Policies are now reflecting the risk of keeping battery powered bicycles/scooters in the home. Universities are banning electric bikes/scooters from being brought into domitories.

These vehicles weigh around 16 tons!!!! The fact these 2 mechanics pushed the bus out of the bay is amazing!!!!👏👏👏👏👏

There is no such thing as zero emissions Busses. Tailpipe emissions yes, not global emissions.

The goal to rapidly decarbonize our grid is jeopardizing public safety.

My local transit system and school district opted for compressed natural gas, and they work pretty good. At least, they’re not catching fire.

We all got 7 more years to enjoy our gas run vehicles, then it's all electric if you can't afford one, you're walking or riding a bike! Hilarious 😂

I would not ride any Electric bus; they are dangerous and can catch on fire without any notice.
Seen this happen with Penske's Ford Electric Vans, Ford vehicles at dealerships, Tesla's and many more heavy vehicle fleets.

The fire did not involve the battery and there are far more gas powered cars that catch fire per 100, 000 cars. The stupidity of the comments on this page is stunning.

When are these Net Xi ro's going to admit this tech isn't where it needs to be in terms of safety or function? Unlike petrol vehicles that have to have a defect to catch fire ; brand new BEV vehicles can simply self ignite; doing nothing. The Falicity Ace roll on roll off car carring ferry with 4000 luxury vehicles on board caught fire and sank in 10, 000 feet of water - the cause - a Brand New Porsche EV which was doing nothing just parked in a ferry sitting still, not charging. These lithium based batteries are simply too dangerous to use in any scale. When you hear the old NTSB quote repeated that Petrol catches fire more - its a lie - it is from 2020 when there were few EVs in the USA and those that existed averaged 1 year old; while Petrol vehicles averaged 12 years old; many being 20 or 25 years old.
