I grew up I Florida, and have lived back and forth between Hawaii (Big Island and Oahu) and San Diego for the past 28 specifically, Hilo, Waikiki, Mission Beach, and Pacific Beach. Just as a brief summary, San Diego is very energetic and vibrant, Hawaii (and the other islands) is island life, which is for the most part detached and chill. Whenever I get back to San Diego, its always a shock because everything is so big and so fast compared to the islands. When I get back to the islands, I literally take a deep breath and can feel time slow down. Both are home to me, both are beautiful places, with great people. I could never say "PB/Mission Beach or Hilo, North Shore, got to be all of the above my friends.

When i moved from HI to CA i felt like food was practically free because of the price difference. Coronado is prettiest beach in SD and Kailua is prettiest in Oahu.

Thanks for the awesome video, as always! I live two hours south of SD..I would say you're right about most everything, especially property value. California's home and rent prices are out of control! Another big issue for me is crime. Los Angeles and most of southern California for the most part have gotten very dangerous.. The more Inland you get, the more urban ghetto you will experience.. most tourists and residents are considered neutral when it comes to gangs and violent crime but you really have to be careful as to where you venture off to. if you stay close to the beaches and the beach cities, you'll be fairly safe and have a great time!

How bad is the Hilo side after Hurricane Lane? Was Kona hit much?

The video perspective is in reverse. YellowProductions says that it's a youtube issue.

The transportation system there is great - they def planned way ahead of time - even in the mid 80s we thought the same about it. I lived in San Diego for 28 years and owned a locksmith business for 11 of my last years there. It was expensive but so was locking your self out of your car/house/business so I was able to live good.
I love Makalawena Beach for the big island and Ocean Beach is my fav for locals but if you get a chance go here at 3am San Onofre State Beach. Lay down somewhere and listen to the rocks and watch the stars.
You should film The Cave Store - I'm sure you been there :) if not La Jolla :) Yeah SD beach water sux
12:08 I took my daughter up to the top of that building back in the late 90s

Are the beaches in Florida similar to Hawaii?

I grew up in san diego. Go to La Jolla shores, Del Mar Beach, Cardiff Beach, and if your in san diego during the summer del mar fair and the best west coast race track del mar. You should film around la jolla cove area/ la jolla shores as that would give them that beachy laid back feel. Don't forget San Diego Zoo and sea world, and lego land. Even the Beach in Oceanside near the pier and two jettis is nice too. and don't forget Tijuana for the south of the border experience.

San Diego has some incredible beaches just go up north closer to the border has more pollution. Snorkel in la jolla has some great areas that I enjoy more then Hawaii less corals to cut you up. We have some great places to surf that can go par to par with Hawaii. Blacks in la jolla has some solid huge waves that don't crash you into coral just saying. Love Hawaii but having the mountains snowboarding desert and surfing all in one area drivable is amazing. Plus good Mexican food.

Thanks for answering my question! Great active live stream. Very interesting since you rated Kona as #1 and San Diego as #1 in CA and you lived in both. Your insight is very helpful.

If I can be so bold to ask you a hypothetical question? Say you were living in Kona, married and planning to start a family. Both you and your wife have steady incomes, enough to support a middle class lifestyle. (ex. buying small home in kona/waikoloa). Your not rich but your happy/comfortable. You also have no family other than each other. Would you plant roots and raise your kids on the Big Island or move to the mainland?

I know its a convoluted question but if you can answer any part of this, it would bring much clarity. I enjoy all your adventures. Godspeed and thanks for doing what you do!

PLEASE GO TO OCEAN BEACH AND WALK AROUND AND FILM IN 2024. THEN PEOPLE WILL SEE ALL THE DRUNK PEOPLE AND DRUG ADDICTS WALKING AROUND. OFC CORONADO IS NICE, IT IS ONE OF THE MOST EXPENSIVE AREAS. MOST PEOPLE WATCHING THIS CAN'T AFFORD TO STAY IN CORONADO.
