It might take 44 minutes to get a response but if you have multiple conversations at the same time it's almost like shortening that time delay

I'm really curious what the longer day does to a circadian rhythm. Is it something humans can adapt to or do we need to maintain a 24 hour cycle?

Just have them work as night shift technicians where all the engineers work day shift. That'll teach communication with delay.

One of the more interesting constraints is that they will be forced to communicate via email rather than texting.

HISEAS IV in 2016 was a Mars simulation that lasted 12 months, so this is not the first year-long mars habitat simulation.
It is longer though as it lasts 378 days instead of 365.

The delay shouldn't be constant. The distance between earth and Mars is constantly changing and so is the delay.

I do hope the 22 minutes delay is just a simulation and there's actually a middleman to check the communication just in case for extreme emergencies that really need to stop the experiment.

44 minutes to get a response…Oh so it’s like txting my dad and waiting for him to txt back 😅

Actually the communication delay is less than 44minutes because the signal takes around 11 minutes on average to reach Mars and same for going back so 22 minutes is the full message with response.
