Arkham Asylum is heavily inspired by a comic called Arkham Asylum: Serious House on Serious Earth, which is basically horror.

The Scarecrow was at his absolute peak in terms of his illusions and those segments are full of brilliant level design.

And none of those nightmare sequences scared me NEARLY as much as the Croc sewer level. I nearly had panic attacks trying to do that.

They just nailed it with this trilogy, even with Titan Joker in Asylum and the overuse of the Batmobile in Knight. Origins deserves more respect too. Comparing all 4 with Gotham Knights and Kill The Justice League tells you all you need to know.
