How I feel about AI video (Sora)

Open AI just announced Sora, a prompt-to-video generation tool. It's amazingly photorealistic and blurs the line between reality and AI. But what does this mean for creators?

I think it’s an awesome progression. As a child I wanted to create visual stories. Starting out as a audio storyteller I learned the professional way of scoring original(orchestral) music to my stories.
This became my focus point; music and in the years that came I became frustrated about all these aspiring filmmakers out there who had actually no idea about great quality music and the importance of it to enhance the entire experience of a movie altogether.

In fact, it went almost completely dark, my thoughts about these people. Most of them are snobs, hoping to be the next big shot… while they will never reach that point.

I am happy to be able to make visual stories in the future featur my own ideas and my own music.

Some good points. I wouldn't say AI is going to democratise anything. That's what we were told about generative AI at the beginning and now there are good ones free but if you want the best tools you have to pay. That's the way it's heading in my opinion.

Also long term I don't think people will stop wanting to make art or videos "just right". So we will eventually have tools that allow us to change camera angles etc and that's when the talent becomes in demand again.

Relying on AI to create instead of humans is an insult to what it means to be fully human in my opinion.

The only issue is there is no copyright. There's no way to own anything AI generates, so the profit margin is low if any. Anything that's created by AI is fair use for anybody to copy and redistribute for free.

The problem is most people have a strong normalcy bias and think that things will be largely the same for long because that's how they always were.

Change is coming whether or not we want it to come. All we can do is prepare.

Wont mean much if people dont learn film making concepts and technical stuff like camera angles, good story writing, etc. You can make consistent 8k turds but they will remain turds no matter how polished. This just puts tools in the hands of individuals as opposed to requiring a lot of money and studios. Then also even though video just went space age, lipsync is still in the stone age.

Change is always inevitable.
Thinking about how scare is gonna be, not gonna help you to survive.
Instead, learn to get used to the new situations and blend with the new reality that is continuously coming.
We're not here to control how the future is gonna look like. We're just here to experience that and try our best to both survive and enjoy when passing through it.

You should have stood by all those digital artists when you had the chance.

I feel obliged to point out a counter argument. AI uses a lot of power. I saw a quote that it may soon, if not already, use 6 times the power usage of Denmark. Also, it costs a LOT of money, you probably know that, but Sam Altman is asking for 7 trillion dollars! WTF! And one more, it uses a ton of water to cool it. Massive amounts, which will only increase. All of these things will increase. Water is quite the precious resource in cetain parts of the world, even in some places in the USA. I mean it is precious to everyone really. Thanks for reading, hope I didn't piss anyone off.

I keep wondering if the advent of AI might be the start of the end for the internet. I’m not sure I want to watch AI generated content for leisure (be it text, images or videos). I hope I’m not alone…

LOL, wait until you can plug this into an Agent Swarm. Self-Service content is on its way.
