When I was growing up, I remember my dad's boss living in the same neighborhood as we did. Then,
years later they moved to gated communities. At work they had separate parking areas. Then,
their kids went to private schools. More and more the divide was taking place. Now,
the void is immense and the " elite" have a disdain if not hatred for the ones left behind in the old neighborhood.
How to close the void?
Why would they? Is the real question

The UK no longer has Conservative MP’s, certainly not in the Conservative Party anyway. Most are further to the left than Labour MPs. We need a complete overhaul haul of our political system, and the introduction of legislation that states that a Parties manifesto is a legally binding document that ensures that the public will receive what they vote for.

Before my countrys parlamentet election, I asked politicians if they could name one thing that had become better for the individual citizen the last 40 years. No one could point out anything. The closest thing was travelling without borders in the EU. Well, I still have to present my passport, if I fly, take a ferry and even at some borders. So, there's not much difference. So, nothing good has been done in the last 40 years.

In the US and the UK there are 2 establishment parties who care for their own group / followers and no one else. But this applies to Australia as well (John Anderson is from Australia).

Oh, they want to close the voids alright. They just refuse to allow the void to close any other way than forcing their wants and beliefs on the people, rather than abiding by the wants and beliefs of the people that put them in their position.

Of course the Right and Left are closer together on these matters than they are to the masses. Politicians as despicable as they may be at times are nonetheless more educated and therefore more cognizant of the social and political realities. Furthermore, they both belong to the elite and so they are both out of touch with the average voter.
I sure hope that this guy's statement is no surprise to anyone.

People fail to realize where we are in history. Europe, America & Canada are in the end of the first major industrial era which started around 1650. The middle & lower classes are being crunched because China, Russia & the rest of the world are playing catch up to us technologically from refrigerators to cell phones.
Because of this prevalent tech freedom in the west, people, especially the young are defining themselves on their own terms. The LGBTQ & woke mvt plus black lives matter & CRT (critical race theory) reflect a new identity rooted in realism & not old societal beliefs of the past.

Immigration is different. It is the unfolding of bad policy and neglect by Europe & America to prolong colonialism for personal gain to the point of destroying 3rd world countries. Now, cities in Europe & Britain don't have money for housing, education & basic needs while their own people are struggling.

Those elected to government are generally those who have financial backing from the establishment which are wealthy corporations & individual donors associated with established parties. These backers are moderate to conservative in agenda who don't want to move from the status quo. It will be interesting, going foorward, to what degree millenials, gen X & Z will have influencing politics. As of yet, they are a significat chunk of votes but not organzed yet.
