Giants, Genetics, and Pre-Flood Longevity

Scripture describes humans living for a very long time, nearly a millennium before the Flood. Many scoff at this, stating this is reason to disregard the Bible. Even some evangelicals claim these ages just can’t be taken literally. But, is that really true?

In the last episode, we looked at historical and scientific evidence to corroborate the Bible’s claim that the Genesis patriarchs lived to extremely old ages. In fact, this longevity was probably experienced by at least some animals, as well. In this podcast, we ask the question, Might it eventually be possible for biblical creationists to actually explain this extreme longevity?

So Dr. Hebert, if I'm hearing you correctly, and I want to live past 70, I need to ignore politics to keep my heart rate down. 😁 it gives me great confidence and faith to know our bible explains this fallen world we live in. In general, I'm with you, but what puzzles me is how that squares with the fact that larger animals (e.g. Great Danes vs Chihuahuas or people like Andre the Giant) tend to live shorter lives, not longer.

Mutation load (cumulative mutation buildup over time) is just what we would expect from Adam's original sin and resultant curse on creation. Man and other genomes are not evolving...we are devolving...medical advances have only forestalled the inevitable. Accepting Jesus the risen Christ as one's savior is the only way to eternal life.

I think your belief people were larger is highly likely. The world before the flood was about 100x more verdant based off estimates of fossilized plant life. If body size correlates to lifespan, and a lack of food limits lifespan and body size, then the connection to lack of food should be clear. Note that as people have gained greater food security, people have steadily begun to grow taller as if to return closer to the original size of organisms. I think the original environment was better at creating healthy food that was more nutritious. There were probably more microorganisms we dont have today in the soil (scientists have found many fossilized microorganisms in Cambrian-era rocks that we don't find in soil today) that supplied more nutrition to the plants and an atmosphere with more CO2 for growth and better atmospheric conditions.

It seems you kind of missed one animal that proves this idea about larger animals living longer. The giant Turtle. These turtles can live over 200 years.

I see what you're saying about some large animals, but why is it that larger dogs tend to live shorter lives than smaller ones?

Pre flood. The world was completely different before the flood. After the flood the whole environment changed.

As was said in the video, the LORD has shortened our lifespans. It is not as much of a scientific thing as a spiritual thing. As everything is going downhill toward the end of this world, our hearts could not bear seeing the downhill slide any longer than the current length of our lifetimes.

Fossils are great but why does everyone ignores what hiding in plain sight - ancient giant trees.
Yes dragon flies were the size of seagulls and trees were the size of mountains. Devils tower is tree stump and no one ever talks about that. The evidence is right in front of us, we don’t need to dig and hypothesize, it’s obvious. Very frustrating.

The decay of the earth's magnetic field probably has had major impacts on life over time. This is a factor that should be investigated.
A reduced magnetic field would open the way for more cosmic ray interactions that can produce genetic changes.

Have you considered the fact that there are many ‘mistakes’ in our genes that build up over the generations? That definitely means we are not getting better. Has there been any studies of the relationship between obedient children and long life?

The environment as a whole and what ever underlying energetic sustaining by the Creator before He released the power are my thoughts.

Fruits, vegetables probably were super filled with nutrients, antioxidants.
