Best Preferred | 2024 Mazda CX-5 vs Mazda CX-30

The Mazda CX-5 and CX-30 Preferred trims are very premium for lower trim packages. The Deep Crystal Blue exterior compliments the lighter interiors very well.

The Preferred packages include upgraded interiors and power moonroofs. The CX-30 includes a power driver’s seat with heated seats and memory. The CX-5 includes both power seats with heated seats and memory. The CX-5 adds a rear power liftgate.

We've had our CX-30 Preferred for 3 & 1/2 years now. We've had no issues. I like not having cylinder deactivation. The most notable difference between the 2 is backseat leg room. If you regularly carry folks over 5'6" in the backseat, get the CX-5. The 30's backseat is compromised. Even without the turbo, the 30 has some giddy-up. That's reflected in the gas mileage. I'm happy with the trade-off. Two good choices for 2 different scenarios.

CX 30 needs a facelift, to be similar to the entire line of Mazda crossovers. Now it looks like a lifted Mazda 3 hatchback

I'm hoping that Mazda puts the Corolla Cross hybrid system into the CX-30 soon because even more than the CX-50, the CX-30 really needs more range. 200 HP and 42 MPG would be very very welcome. Preferably built in either Japan or Alabama since the Corolla Cross and CX-50 (same platform) are built there already.

I just bought a brand new 2024 CX-30 (picking it up this week), and also own 2023 CX-5 with 13K miles on it. If both cars last me reliably for 10 years of use (about 120K miles of use) without ridiculous repair bills, I will likely stay with Mazda for life and maybe even buy their more expensive versions like the CX-90.
