SUCH A BEAST! Sony have constantly been making statements with their XPERIA range. I remember when the first version came out and it was touted as benig a monitor for Alpha cameras....Couldn't believe it when I first saw it on Unbox Therapy. Definitely looking forward to more videos showcasing this phone from you James.

1 hr is def too little for most professional shoots but I think it’s still useful to have as a backup. I view the Xperia lineup as a good supplement to the alpha experience.

The Monitor+ app (iOS and Android) for around 20€ works great. Especially with a USB C to USB C cable on Android because you avoid all that messing around with wifi and Bluetooth.

Could you negate the problem with charging and using it as an external monitor at the same time with a splitter cable? So you can plug a charger in and the cable to be an external monitor?

How about wireless charging while using as a monitor. Sorry I dont know how that would work? If you have an old sony camera you could use this phone as a video cam pretending to be a monitor.

You can use the Monitor+ app with USB cable and it is much more loaded with video monitor extras than this Sony app that is available only in those crazy expensive phones.

Hey James, great video, as always. I still use an A9ii (and an A7R4 for stills) but have just got my grubbies on a Xperia 5V. I’m not having any luck hooking it up as a monitor. Using a USB C. Any tips?
