History is not for you to like. It's for you to learn from. White washing history of what offends you is an abomination.

I don't think censoring old videos and themes is the way to go. We need to teach future generations to look back at what was "acceptable" and discuss why it isn't acceptable now. It's the only way to grow stronger then to just sweep it under a rug and pretend it never happened.

I’m a very liberal person, but aside from the blackface scenes in Fantasia, I pretty much disagree with the altering of every single one of these. Another is in the Pixar short “Knick Knack”, where the bikini girl’s appearance has been changed. All of these are either products of their time, and shouldn’t be changed just because things have changed today, or I think there’s still nothing wrong with them today. A kid getting stuck in a dryer? Please. If a kid is that stupid then they deserve to get stuck. And when they get out they’ll have learned a valuable lesson. Smoking? Even when I was growing up in the 80’s we frequently had medical professionals come in, speak to our class, and show us graphic photos and videos of the effects of smoking. I never EVER wanted to smoke because of that, and never have. If kids from my generation did after that, then again, I say that’s just Darwinism. But I can’t imagine kids today seeing a Disney cartoon or film from the 40’s and not knowing that smoking is unhealthy. Sheesh. Give it a rest, Disney.

Always remember that cartoons in the early days were not designed for children. They were entertainment for adults dealing with the Great Depression, WW2, and the Cold War.

#4: To be fair, in a past documentary, it said that Walt Disney made these cartoons/movies for adults. So things like smoking (which wasn't a big deal way back in the 20s-70s) were seen all the time. (In all honesty, the only time I've seen kids smoke was in the original 1940s Pinocchio. Everybody else was an ADULT.)

This is one of the many reasons I don't have Disney+. Instead I have the old versions of the movies and thats what my kid watches. This just teaches people to be oversensitive.

First off, about Jessica Rabbit, that film was never completely aimed at being a children's film. At the time, as it does now the film possesses a PG rating. Film censorship, like any other form of censorship is completely wrong, and needs to be discussed with in context of the period in which the work was originally introduced, not by today's sensibilities. Today's sensibilities are genuinely warped and they don't reflect the truth.

Censorship is a horrible thing, and proves why we need to hold on to our physical media. They can't alter the ones you've already bought.
They did even more damage to Space Jam 2 than just editing out Pepe - they also altered Lola to make her "less sexual". The removal of Pepe and the altering of Lola was a large part of why that movie did so poorly. Fans just opted to not watch it.

I think destroying original works is criminal because where will it end? They did the same thing to Roald Dahl books. People don't have to watch these things if they get offended

The Aladdin part is a prime example on the state of this channel. There is no where stated what the missing line was. Why even bother making a video when the contet just ist "Things got changed, but we wont tell you!" - If you dont wnat to show it, dont mention it!
(And everybody knows its "Where they cut off your ear. If they don't like your face")

To be honest, the dryer scene change doesn’t really work because kids are smart enough that if they see it then there is a lesser chance of doing it. If they don’t see it then it will more likely indicate that it’s ok to do it. A niece of mine was hiding in a dryer and it made me think of the original version of LILO and Stitch. Kids are a lot smarter than people think.

People are too sensitive these days. Every movie was a reflection of the time it was made.

Song of the South is such a great film. Are there things wrong with it? Of course but people the film was made in the 1940s what do you expect?

i understand the smoking thing, but if it's part of the social commentary, then it should not be censored. Take for example the Pleasure Island scenes in Pinocchio (both the original Disney version and the remake). The entire purpose of that scene is to teach kids about the consequences for bad behavior. If it's emotionally scarring, then it did it's job. How tf is Pinocchio supposed to learn about these consequences when you're spoon-feeding him all of the good stuff. Children need to learn that life can be just as ugly as it is beautiful, they need that balance. Protecting the innocence of the youth is important regarding topics like war and disease, but at some point children are going to become adults and there are lessons they need to learn before that happens.

It's likely because my DVD copy is older, but my copy of Toy Story 2 still includes that scene in the end credits with Stinky Pete and the Barbie dolls... and Woody laughing after his string breaks must've been a recent addition, because it is not in my copy.

As for PePe?

Yeah, that actress said it perfectly and pointed out the major flaw in entertainment nowadays.

They'd rather pretend the inappropriate behaviour of certain characters in the past was forgotten and ignored, under the guise that THAT teaches their actions as being wrong, when pretending they didn’t happen doesn't do anything but make it seem like someone's trying to hide something.

It's why so many things being edited out actually do the opposite of what those editing them out were trying to do in the first place.

If a character's behaviour is bad and they got punished for their actions, teaching kids that you shouldn't do what got the character in trouble, Removing the scene altogether gives the opposite impression, that the character got away with it, implying to the kids that they’ll get away with it too.

Hardly good teaching methods for kids, if you asked me

It's a wonder that they managed to get away with such a sensual character like Jessica Rabbit in a children's film. Most of the references went right over my head, though.

I think song of the south deserved to be released from prison. I mean todays world even after the segregation, people are still being racist. And song of the south has good morals but they are just so sensitively focused on what's wrong with the film they did not look at the good stuff about it. Movies are meant to be enjoyed. Not to be takened seriously

I remember all these cartoons in their original format growing up as a kid I wasn't thinking of any of the content in them...the only thing on my mind was getting through a week of school to wake up Saturday morning and pour a huge bowl of Apple Jacks cereal and park in front of the tv all-day
