this is the moment when Sukuna back to his true form:
after Kashimo has managed to force Sukuna's hand into revealing his trump card. Sukuna uses a Cursed Tool created by Yorozu called Kamutoke to restore his body by reincarnating and reclaiming his old, Heian-era form. according to Gege Akutami Sukuna has a power where he can bring back his true body, however, he can do this only once. Interestingly, this process does not involve the use of the Reverse Cursed Technique, yet it allows Sukuna to fully heal and regain his former strength and cursed energy reserves. the fact that Sukuna didn't use his true form against Gojo means Gojo truly wasn't able to make Sukuna give the battle his all.

I think that he wanted to use his old body as a revival after he killed gojo because if he didn't, he would have killed gojo but be extremely injured which would give way to his defeat.

Imagine this:

Sukuna had 2 life bars and a couple of potions and spells that could only be used per each life bar. If Sukuna made the mistake to use this form to early He could suffer some irreparable damage from Gojo and He would be weaken enough to be defeated by the others. He played smart and he recognize Gojo strengh

think about it, gojo himself stated that a ten shadows technique user has already before shown to come out equal in a one on one battle with a six eyes + Infinity user. I strongly believe that that comes from the adapting power that is Mahoraga's wheel. so what I think is that while yes the true form is a huge powerup, it just isn't the right kind of powerup to deal with an opponent like gojo. Gojo has attacks that do insanely much damage, he is a prodigy that probably adapts to new situations just as fast as Sukuna does and has the infinity on his side making it already hard to hit him in general. Sukuna going back to his true form would also mean him giving up his ten shadows advantages because of being in Megumi's body therefore losing his strongest force in Mahoraga's adaptation to defeat Gojo. Yes he's probably insanely strong in this ancient form, but Sukuna had his reasons to take over Megumi's body before he got back to his true form and I strongly believe that that reason is simply that he was aware that Gojo might still be a fair match to true form sukuna with how crazy fast he learns new things to overcome himself over and over. So to sum it up I think that Sukuna needed to not go true form to be able to even win here since he would lose a major advantage in the fight
