I don't think it's the end for Brennan. Yes he only DM'd 3 of the most recent seasons, but he by far has the most episodes when compared to guest hosts. This seems like payback for the emotional damage Brennan caused in Calamity. I'm excited to see Mercer take on a new project and play in a new world without the burden on years of lore.

There's no way this is the end of Brennan dming for dimension 20. It just wouldn't be the same without him

My theory:
Usually Brennan's campaigns feel very goofy and silly while also portraying a great story. While Matt gives you a serious dramatic story while also portraying hijinks and shenaniganry. Two sides of the same coin.
Brennan gave us an amazing, serious and dramatic story in EXU:Calamity, showing us Brennan's style isn't just "funny haha".
I think Matt Mercer is gonna blow us away with funny haha goofy experience that manages to tell a great story and show us what a goodfy little goblin dm he can truly be.

How in the HELL does Matt have this much time on his hands? He has to be one of the busiest people out there with everything Critical Role, Voice Over, and now D-20?! Like where does he find the time?

Now that we're seeing a lot of new DMs, I really wanna see Murph as the DM for a D20 campaign.

Well, brennan DM'd on critical role, so it makes sense that they would have him DM on dimension 20 for a short campaign.

It is true that more and more of the sidequests have other dms than Brennan, but Dimension20 have been quite up front about trying to have other dms for the sidequests. Combine that with the fact that, yes Brennan is dm'ing less seasons of the overall output, but we are also getting more content/seasons. So I don't think that there is any worry that we are losing anything, only gaining. The different dm's is Dimension20's way of making their content scalable, I think.

When Brennan was launching world’s beyond numbers with Aabria, Lou, and Erika, he said that there’s still a lot of plans within the mix for Dimension 20. He may start bringing in more guest DMs, but I doubt his adventures with the intrepid heroes are far from over

Okay yes they are rotating the GM Seat, and I enjoy it cause we get to see GM styles that suit the setting they are in. Brennan will ALWAYS be the face of D20, I’m sure Matt was wanting to play in the Dome since Calamity. But knowing Matt he was probably waiting to smooth out the story and stuff before pitching it. I hope Emily Axford and/or Travis Willingham are in this season

Brennan is one of the creative producers on d20. Every season he isn't the gm are shorter seasons with less production value. They have consistently had weekly episodes of d20 on dropout for years now. It's obvious to bring in other GM's to allow for higher productions with the main intepid hero's cast

They are producing more content every year, I wouldn't look at this as Brennen. stepping away. He has since the beginning of D20 made a point of welcoming and making room for new and diverse players. The new DM's and cast and types of games support that. D20 is obviously very precious to him and he seems to be somewhat involved with all of the campaigns even when not on screen. Including other folks is not making his spot smaller, it's making the space bigger. And that's a beautiful thing.

Man just by guessing i bet he shot these eps when brenen was DMing on CR or when they had the breaks for Critical role and all the high-end map shots and stuff and edits were just finalized this is gonna be interesting I'm excited to see what comes up with it

I'm interested in seeing Matt run a game with a set time frame. We've only ever seen him run One shots or 110+ session campaigns. So.its gonna be fun to see him do something with a short run.

I just hope Aabriya and Brennan get to play in this one!

i think it will be a nice change to see MM DMing a faster paced (shorter) campaign. It seems to me that many of the larger actual play groups are spreading the love to one another and i think it bodes well to the TTRPG community, especially after the OGL fiasco. It is great to see the community as a whole come together even more.

Mercer is up to his eyebrows in work.
1. Everything happening with VM animation.
2. Announced coming of M9 animation.
3. Running current campaign 3 (BH).
4. Anything and everything he might be involved with running the CR corp.
5. Maintaining a marriage with Marisha.
6. Occasional sleep.

How he's finding time to host DM on another channel is beyond me... and people want to see more? You'll have him work himself to death, and then where would we all be?

Honestly, I think it's a break for BOTH of them. Brennan gets to focus on Worlds Beyond Number and not go nuts, and Matt gets to enjoy himself in D20 while bringing his MASSIVE audience with him to show them a little love.

It’s going to be a miniseries like A Court of Fey and Flowers. They have recently been giving the seat to a different DM and honestly I think that’s smart given that brings their audience to Dimension 20 and gets them into the other shows. It’s not less of Brennan, it’s giving him the opportunity to be a PC or to have a break and work on other projects. It’s fine.

I'm super hyped for this! Brennan and Matt are both absolute masters of the craft and after the insane succuess of EXU: Calamity, this is just the next logical step! I'm extremely excited to see what Matt cooks together with a completely different cast, world and story!

Would be interesting to see how Matt DM's outside the CR cast. I know he's an OG player, but Critical Role's playstyle is quite unique and different, though D20 is similarly different as well.
