Holiday Gift Ideas for Artists

Ho ho ho. What do you get for the person who already has nothing? How about an art book, because their poor ass is probably an artist.

This is just a fun seasonal video to share some of those basic ideas and recommendations. Art books are like crack to some artists, once you start buying them, it's hard to stop.

Make a mental list of the things that you think make people improve at art (such as a figure drawing class), and know that by doing any of these things, you will become better. Expect to become better every day. I can't stress enough how important it is to be mentally positive about improving. If I wake up tomorrow convinced that I can't draw well, then trust me (because it happens sometimes), I won't be able to draw for shit... regardless of all the practice I have had over the years.

Skillful Huntsman definitely is my favorite of all concept illustration books. It is worth having two: One to keep pristine on the shelf, and the other to handle and consult constantly for helpful insights on the design process.

Sort of gotten addicted to artbooks in the last 6 months or so. Current big favorite probably being Dark Souls artbook, love the overall style the game has.

I borrowed structura and the skillfull huntsman from the library this year, renewed them 3 times and had them for the whole year >_< definitely nice to have. Ballistic publishing make some really nice books, Massive Black has nice books.

Hey Sinix, that book is actually in Hebrew! And it's a book by Sergeanne Golon called "Angélique in Revolt", it's an adventure book according to Wikipedia.

Just so we don't start WWIII, that book was Hebrew, not Arabic. So, not the Koran, then. :)
