Rooney is hardly an Everton legend. The fans hated him for most of his career. He left as a teenager and when he went back he was done. That's like united calling pogba a united legend.

Talking about club legends and nobody mentions Dixie Dean... 383 goals just for Everton. Some people will probably say he doesn't count because his career was a long time ago, but some of the same people will happily include Newcastle's title wins even though the last of those was in 1927, while Everton won the title twice in the 80s.

Everton have been in the top division more seasons than any other team since the Football League was founded... founded in part by Everton. Newcastle FC didn't exist at the time.

I'm not an Everton fan, but they are clearly a very important team, and if they do get relegated it will be the end of the second longest run in the top flight.
