The new updates literally make the phone slower, the older processors have to work harder to support the os. Its only partially due to the battery.

Well I got a battery upgrade on my old iPhone 7 bc it kept dying fast and was laggy. But it didn’t even make a change. It was still laggy getting hot and dying fast from like going on social media or even js watching a yt video.
