This video explains what Sociology is. It is aimed at Sociology students and anyone who wants to know what it is like to study Sociology. It mainly covers Sociology a level, but it will be a good introduction to sociology at all levels - GCSE, A level and above - because the main themes and questions are the same.

What is sociology about?
Sociology seeks to understand how peoples’ behaviour is shaped by society, and how people and groups change and shape society through their actions. Sociologist study a wide range of topics – including the family, education, religion, gangs, love & the media – in fact, just about any topic can be investigated by sociologists.
They seek to understand how organisations affect different social groups opportunities in life, for example they investigate why some ethnic groups experience discrimination. At an individual level, sociology studies how our identities i.e. our gender, ethnicity and age etc, affect our experiences.
Sociologists carefully and methodically investigate society using research methods such as questionnaires and interviews. Their research can reveal fascinating new ways of understanding society.
