Enjoyed the video. Thanks. Used to have a monochrom m and loved it. And still look at the pictures today. Had only recently read about the sensor issues. I had no issues with mine. And I have some much more advanced cameras. Was thinking about picking up a 240 but they are close in price to a m10 on eBay. It’s the fact I would need to buy lens again is another topic !

One thing I have become aware of while shopping between a M9 and a MP240, Leica has discontinued the battery for the 240 and there are no 3rd party options. For the M9, 3rd party batteries are readily available. The only M240 batteries available seem to be used ones.

Have you considered a Pixii Max? Not readily available yet, but brand new it is relatively affordable.

I have had most of the M digital, and now M11-P and M10M. However, the M240 and M246 were my workhorses from 2015-2017 and perfect for most things. I never had a M-P 240, but I would say it is likely the best bet. Great battery life, better buffer, elegant without the red dot. I do stress the colors are different than the M10, the M10-R is closer and the M11/M11-P is likely the best colors of them all (for CMOS). For your top script, you can also look at the Leitz Wetzlar version of the M10M, which I have and likely won’t get rid of.

I really dig my M9. Especially how loud the shutter is! It’s old, slow, loud, and just my speed. :-)

The heart of an artist, the brain of an accountant. It's a great blend.

I like my M240 a lot, good color and IQ, great battery life. The downside is that it is not the camera but what it is pointed at. ;o) Another good video. You are consistent.

I have owned an m-p 240 silver for the last three or four years now. Bought it from a Swedish surgeon that was forced by his wife to make a sacrifice after having acquired a hand made shotgun for a ridiculous amount of money. The Leica had to go. I was glad I was able to relieve him from his burden and save his marriage. The camera – with the silver version of the 35mm summicron – still looks brand new. It is just as solid as it is beautiful. I seldom use it for my professional, journalistic work. It is mostly for pleasure. And I indeed enjoy using and owning it.

I think the best deal is the Leica M8.2. You get the Leica rangefinder experience at a moderate price and the black paint version is gorgeous. 10 Mpx is plenty, ISO 640-1250 is sufficient and UV/IR filters are cheap on the second hand market. I also don't care about the crop factor. The image quality is superb!

M10’s brass very easy . Just forget to take the ring off your right index finger and shoot like that for 4-5 years. My top plate on the right side next to the strap lug and shutter button goes black to gray, silver chrome then bright gold brass a very interesting gradient of paint layers. One day shooting with a silver ring put so many scratches on the side I just said screw it, and just never took the ring off when I shoot. Also I never plan on selling my m10 because it’s the perfect digital rangefinder.

Thanks Matt, I'm a big fan and learned a lot from your videos. I sold my M240 and I badly miss it, so I have a chance to buy a black "M10-R" (around $5100) do you think this "M10-R" is a final station to quench my thirth for GAS or "M10" does the job and I don't need to pay the extra money for the M10R? Many thanks

M240 has movie mode.
M240, you can’t do off center focusing (both with optical rangefinder nor live view). With M10 or newer, you can. This is the biggest deal for me. When I use fast glass, it’s very helpful focusing off center on live view.

Hi MattHave a look at your video below Thanks for posting and sharing What I absolutely don't need on the M240 is the movie function, it's completely unnecessary for me. When I bought it, unfortunately a 240 MP was not yet financially possible because it was refinanced. Maybe I'll be able to upgrade, although the battery performance plays a very important role for me. Although I got a second one just to be on the safe side. Great video, but you know that.

Looking at your work, since you do so much B&W, I would get an M10M if you can find it. The issue with M240’s as you know is really bad high ISO at 3200+.

Hi Matt, on a slightly different point, what do you know about the lens below. It seems of interest to me. Also do you know what Robert Wright or anyone else might have it in stock in the UK.

All wonderful choices, I looked around and purchased a M 240 M-P Safari in green that love and it matches my Bessa R2 in green.

That's where two of us differ. Since late 80's until a couple of months ago EVERY single camera I've bought was black, so I'm sick and tired of black cameras. The only exception would be a video or medium format camera, if not available in chrome...

You get a lot of bang for the buck with the mp240. Definitely undervalued in my opinion.

Red Dot Cameras is a great store indeed. On my last visit there I got myself a red Leica bible. A pity that, for someone from the continent, buying a camera or lens in the UK has become so expensive since Brexit. 😢

I've never really been convinced that the red dot makes such a unique looking camera that much more conspicuous, especially when light is reflecting off the exposed rangefinder and lens elements. I have the most obnoxiously visible Leica imaginable (silver chassis and white leather) and never get attention for it, except from people who recognize the camera and want to compliment it. The M-P Typ 240 is a cool camera, but you can tell that some of the features were a result of Leica's rapid technological advancement at the time and trying to incorporate as much as they can, sort of like the standard 240's useless video feature. I couldn't possibly imagine a need for 24 images in the buffer on such a slow-to-operate camera, but it certainly was impressive back then. The frameline selector is by far the biggest upgrade, coupled with the much more accessible vertical rangefinder adjustment.
