Good tutorial. Here are a few additional things I’ve learned:
1) Provided I have time, I find 10x viewfinder zoom the most accurate for focus assist. I use that especially for astrophotography. And the focus peaking actually obscures the very critical optimum focus, so I turn it off.
2) And for hyperfocal, I’ve used the viewfinder focus scale with a lot of success, especially with the fujicron lenses that have stepper motors.
3) Also, I use film sim bracketing a lot because I’m usually a jpeg shooter. It doesn’t take three images though. It takes only one image and converts three times, which is much better.

Just found this tip in the process of looking for something else (mapping focus peaking to a button) and it is truly revolutionary. Not only does it help with focus, it also helps with metering highlights. I have the meter linked to the focus point. This lets me spot meter the exposure so I save the highlights and then focus. Highlights are much more obvious in B&W. As you suggested, it forces you to think about the light and shadow in your composition. Thanks!
