I used to think this too but it makes sense as to why he became evil. He used to think dueling was just for fun but then came across scenario after scenario where his life and the lives of his friends were on the line and even seen his friends lose. So he took it upon himself to solve everything. That's why when Johan/Jesse was lost in the alternate dimension, he himself wanted to go without anyone else.

But that was literally the point of Jaden’s character arc the other characters relied on him so much that it began to burden him with the heavy stakes every duel had it’s why he liked Jessie so much cause he thought he finally found someone who was his friend who was just as strong of a duelist but then ofc he got possessed by yubel which increased Jaden’s spiral into darkness.

This aspects of GX is especially annoying if you liked the moral of the original series which was ultimately about the value of friends.
While GX ends up making friends out as a annoying burden to abandon to rather challenge the world on your own (you know the thing Mai learned it bad in the of series)

I sort of liked s3 characters as a concept, but the problem is that they took a spotlight from the main cast (except Jaden).
When someone was supposed to beat Jaden as a Supreme King, it could've been his best friend, girl who liked him (and that angle could've been explored), his counterpart who could also beat destiny, or his rival who always fell short, but they put a random guy with Volcanics

But that is a part of the point. That why season 3 and 4 happened. They relied too much on Jaiden, then would berate him for not wanting their help, to then immediately put it back onto his shoulders as soon as they could. Jesse didn’t do that, and kept the duels fun, which lead to the others seeing jesse as taking Jaiden away, when really he was the only one acting in a way Jaiden needed. This is coming after 2 seasons of Jaiden needing to save them constantly. Part of the plot was the friends needing to change themselves to bring him back from what he became.

That seems to be one of the main problems with writing Yugioh; they tend to focus a little too much on the Protagonist(alot of the times to the utter detriment of other good characters....poor Tristan) for the most part. They tried to get away from that in 5Ds, but they inadvertently made Yusei TOO powerful as a result....

Agree. In re watching the series now and Jaden defeats every shadow rider himself. Why’d they have to do Zane like that

I think it’s right the he’s the one doing the most duels it’s an anime where there in high school so it usually fits that the guy that gets followed around and earns respect continuously steps up to the challenge

A lot of animes have a problem. They have a lot of cool characters but they only focus on the main single character.😢😢😢😢

I always hated how the shadow rider Vampire women fights TWO WHOLE DUELISTS Just to make Jaden look more impressive, had she defeated Crowler and left Zane to Defeat her it'd make him look Fairly competent

Totally agree!
I like Jaden, but at some points, I believed some of his friends were more interesting than him

misawa was pretty much forgotten about by the end and manjoume was turned into comic relief. Definitely too many new characters, the core group from the earlier seasons ended up sidelined
