Brexit ruling: UK can cancel decision, EU court says - BBC News

The European Court of Justice has ruled the UK can cancel Brexit without the permission of the other 27 EU members.

The ECJ judges ruled this could be done without altering the terms of Britain's membership.

A group of anti-Brexit politicians argued the UK should be able to unilaterally halt Brexit, but they were opposed by the government and EU.

The decision comes a day before MPs are due to vote on Theresa May's deal for leaving the EU.

MPs are already widely expected to reject the proposals during a vote in the House of Commons on Tuesday night.

There is also speculation the vote could be delayed, with a government source telling the BBC cabinet ministers may be asked by No 10 to take part in an emergency conference call later.

The best option is and always has been Engxit - England should leave the UK. Could've prevented A LOT of pain over the years (and centuries) with that.

So you want to leave? Yeses
But you have no clue what to do after? Yup, no clue
Oh great...

The UK can do what it wants. It doesn't need a foreign court to tell it what it can and cannot do.

The fact ECJ is telling the UK what it can do, is an example of why millions voted to leave.

From a very concerned American, I ask: what do any British people who are dispassionately looking at your country's future feel what's the best outcome to this conundrum?

The British government cannot get it's acts together to negotiate a descent brexit. Does anyone think the Britain can govern itself post brexit without EU overseeing them. We've become a laughing stock.

Britain is protected by the eu, if britain is attacked then the other EU members help us out. That will not happen soon. Britain will have to defend itself.

We stay in EU provided we can control free movement and provided we decide who can come in from EU. Alternatively, EU can help UK by requiring visa from Eastern European (Eastern Bloc countries) who want to come to UK. All Eastern European countries (Romania, Bulgaria, Poland, Hungary, Latvia, Slovania, Slovakia, Lithuania, Croatia, Estonia) must obtain visa to come to UK. If EU accepts this deal, UK remains otherwise not. There is no other way in the universe!!!!

Why don't you just divide the Britain into two countries : Remainers and Leavers. Then build a hard wall around Brexiters. Everyone would be happy.

Wow, the EU Court is actually correct! More power to UK!

And politicians won't vote to support the deal May got for Britain. Britain will remain the EU member then. That suits me just fine ;)

There's a thing called sovereignty. People or a country really don't need permission to leave a group. What are the other states going to do? Throw a hissy fit because someone wants to leave the party? The people have spoken and there is not a blank think the other countries can do about it.

So, the CJEU has just ruled that the UK can
unilaterally withdraw from article 50. Interestingly this means that the
UK could cancel it's withdrawal before 29th March, and then immediately
invoke article 50 again. We could remain in a permanent state of
debating withdrawal forever by repeating this process indefinitely.

We are leaving on March 29. Then we are rejoining again one second later under Theresa Mays proposals and readmitted as a new category of passive member. So in reality we aren't leaving at all because we are rejoining immediately upon leaving. Once we rejoin the one second later we are no longer an  independent country  and lose all say and would have to have another vote to leave before we became self-governing. Its not a deal, its readmission as a new member!

Ok, so were FREE to rejoin but not FREE to do anything else. Got it. No to the Superstate!
