Using DESIGN MAGIC and it's METASHAPE addon, I was able to create models like this in 20 minutes. This tutorial walks you through an optimized workflow with absolute minimum booleans (only the last brass holes) to create these highly sophisticated models. Great work Chipp. This workflow is the best yet.

A tip with regards to Quad Remesher: By adding materials to mark various areas of topology and selecting Use Materials under the Edge Loops Control, Quad Remesher can create perfectly aligned edge flow.
You're already half way there by using the second material on your cutters. Bevel and Solidify also have options for assigning different materials to the different parts of the operation.
Unless you're applying the cutters after the remesh modifier, this won't work since remesh strips the other material assignments.
As a bonus Quad Remesher will keep your original materials.

Man alive - I knew Metashape/Design magic was the missing link for me to get the most out of the the KitOps ecosystem. I gotta say I am really liking this workflow. I think I need to invest in quad remesher pricy bastard, but man that would just be a dream. Design magic and then quad remesh.

Very nice!Can metashape be used to create a high poly object and bake a normal map from it to a low poly mesh???

Thanks for this. Loved the modelling workflow up until 12:20 where you had 10, 500 polys ... it looked as good as it was ever gonna be as a merged or un-merged mesh (minus the brass cuts)
What was the point of voxelizing it to 2.8 million polys and then decimating it to 55, 000 to get a mesh that wasn't as good as the 10, 500 polys you initially had at 12:20 ?
The question you should have asked at the beginning is "What do I ultimately want to do with this model?"
If it's supposed to be for a game, 27, 000 polys for a game asset for that shape is never gonna happen at any studio. You'd be be better off adjusting the 10, 500 poly version to fit that criteria.
If it was supposed to be for product visualization, then the pre-merged or merged 10, 500 poly + brass cut-out version was the best to use.

Very cool, i have a question how can you add materials to selection with Kitops materials for example
go in edit mode then select face and add that material to those faces i tried but it remove everything and it only make that material only

Hey Chipp how do you make cycles so noiseless even from the first few samples? It's looking so crisp even after just a few samples in viewport.

Chipp - Sorry if this is a stupid question but I'm confused. Can this technique be used for precision modeling or is it meant to just give that appearance? I ask because it appears that you're simply eyeballing in new features and their locations. I'm an old Solidworks guy not well versed in Blender so always looking for ways to tame this beast. I'm here because your video title looked promising.
