Is education the key to success?

Is education the best criteria for success in life? BattaBox presenter Odunayo finds out on the streets of Lagos.

Formal education - from nursery to higher education - is considered a human right and necessity for a country and its people to succeed. A popular quote is that education is the best legacy. Malcolm X once said: "Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today."

However, what is success?

"We are in a global world now - and without education you are nothing," says one Lagos businessman. "Whatever you want to achieve - without education, you cannot achieve anything."

"I don't think so, because not everyone who is successful in life has been educated," explains one young Nigerian man. "We have some people who are illiterate and they are doing very well."

"You've got to learn at least the basic things like reading and writing and that will entail where you are going," says one Nigerian woman. "Just because someone is uneducated and successful, does not mean that education is not important."

Education is necessary but not a guarantee for success

the two main words of the question aren't clearly defined. what is education. what is success. going to school is a form of educating yourself. learning a skill from experience and practice is also a form of education. I'm assuming success is making money. if that's the case, education of any form( whether through school or not) is imperative to succeed. schooling is necessary for some things and not for others.

Former education will make you a living self education will make you a fortune . You need former education(college) if you would like to work for someone else. You need self education to run your own business.

Nigerians are mistaking schools/certificates/degrees for education. Both are not synonymous

What is education?? Education Is a process of receiving or giving a systematic instruction, especially at school or University.

It just depends on the circumstances and where u are located. I know people with a MASTERS degree and they work entry level jobs NOT related to their fields. Then there are those with a TRADE SCHOOL degree( 2 years) and some with NO degree that are making very good money in many different fields( logistics, government, medical, business, management, etc). Finally, some took the entrepreneural route and depending on the business some do very well and some fail...I must also add that there is nothing worse than an EDUCATED FOOL( book smart, but no common sense). Glad to see our girl Odun today!

I don’t think there is a universal concept of ‘success’. Everyone’s ultimate success (if achievable) is different. For me, subjectively, success is ultimate peace with myself. When I am consciously disciplined and am content with my self and my life from internal factors, I will consider myself successful.
I’d say whatever makes you happy and isn’t resulting in suffering, harm, or imposition upon anyone else is successful.

Education is very useful but not the key of success. Wisdom is the key of success. With wisdom you can achieve your goals. Education without wisdom is nothing. Wisdom is very important

We all need education but, I disagree on “Education is the Key to success. There are many ways to become successful. Like Boxers, gamers, some of them are having a Good life without having a degree or going to college.

Education is very important indeed and, that is irrespective of where one lives in the World. Most educated people tend to make better choices resulting in better harvests for their personal lives and economies of their countries. A properly trained individual have enough skills to create his or her own jobs as a post graduate instead of waiting around for one.
