Visit the Slovenian Island on an Emerald Lake

Just over 30 miles northwest of the Slovenian capital Ljubljana, you’ll find an alpine lake that looks straight out of a fairytale. With a cliff-side castle, an emerald green, fresh water lake and some of the best views of the Julian Alps, you’d be forgiven for mistaking Lake Bled and its island church for a storybook cover. And as you cross the lake in a traditional wooden boat, learn the legend of the bell that lies below these emerald green waters.

Just came back from Slovenia 1 month ago, and Lake Bled was amazing. The water was crystal clear and up on top of the mountain is a castle where you can view the entire lake and the beautiful surroundings. Definitely worth the trip.

My grandmother is 88 years old and when she was a kid she moved to America when she was 4 years old coming from Slovenia. Her mom used to go to church with her for those 4 years and her grandmother took her mom there every Sunday. I someday would love to move back with my cousins who still live in Slovenia and somehow go to church there
