Thanks for a great review. My hilux lives on.

Talk about range anxiety. I couldn’t imagine driving with my fuel light the whole time and feeling comfortable. No towing, no 4wd etc

Great report. I think all EV reports (and at the very least all commercial vehicle ones) should utilise current fast charging electricity rates in the cost analysis.
A user in the commercial environment will need to fast charge at 45c/kWh a lot of the time to keep the vehicle on the road which is what its bought for.
On that basis it would be 500, 000km or 16ish years of ownership and that is up to treble the battery warranty.
Very few purchasers paying $95k for a Chinese ute would risk keeping it longer than its warranty so it would be traded at 5 years with perhaps 150, 000km.
Assuming comprehensive insurance would be at least 30% to 50% more than the diesel then this ute has no argument in favour of purchase financially.
I can only imagine how slow it would be with those outputs, a 700kg payload and say 750kg trailer behind.
Range in that situation I predict would be less than 150km based on the Ford EV truck range reductions once loaded.

I think it’s just a marketing exercise.
Some companies that need a green Ute to show how green their company is, might go for it.
Not to be taken seriously but you have to start somewhere. At least they did make a start.

90k. That's BS. This vehicle will be a marketing failure. Not an off roader. Can't tow. 🤣. Pointless. Great video Mr Pepper. You have officially started your comedy career.... All thanks to LDV. LOL.

The real question appears to be; Is it suitable for anybody?
Why are EV companies even bothering to produce next to useless EV utes?

Thanks
Terrible value and the eDeliver9 is even worse

Local council fleets for park, inspection, moving smallish stuff around and light duty work seems to be the only reason it will sell. Can they claim depreciation up front in council business units?

With that price and poor specs. At least a decade away it seems before the technology is cost effective and suitable.

Need to see some plugin hybrid utes. The F150 hybrid seems to be a decent option in America.

Very diplomatic video. Setting higher price tickets seems to be a trend, have we been getting things too cheap all this time? I’m cynical and think they are relying on early adopters to foot the R&D costs in cases like this. It’s a no for me, my money is currently sitting in the bank until the cost of EV SUVs is justifiable (yeah I’m ready for a long wait lol). I recently back-traded my late model diesel SUV to step into a hybrid sedan for the meantime, I find I’m enjoying driving it more as the cost per km is halved.

I agree this vehicle does seem a little pointless, though IMO most of the reasons you mention won't be the problems that stop LDV selling them....
Its cheaper, more powerful, more aerodynamic and has a bigger battery than an EV converted 79 Series, not too mention a lot more modern.
Unlike the toyota though, its not 4WD and doesn't have the reputation for surviving the harsh underground environments where the electric cruisers are being used....and I believe these two factors alone will turn off more buyers than anything....

Ive been waiting for an EV ute. However 45k increase in price is a question i would like to ask LDV. Are there taxes in Aus on EVs? Or is it just a chance to gouge people for the new hotness?

LDV being the first is why its selling. When the other manufacturers see that Australia is actually keen on EV utes, they will start coming here too.

The LDV not being 4wd really destroys its chance on farms. That is about the only place where a good payload with short runs with the ability to DC charge would be that i can think of right now.

All I can see using this are companies doing deliveries and wanting to wave the environmental banner! At $93, 000! it makes me wonder how much Hilux & Ranger EV's cost when they eventually become available.

if you can crank out an EV, you made a car without consuming carbon credits. you can then pollute more in your other ventures as a manufacturer by selling those credits to whatever process you want.

It makes no sense. A fleet company surely would want to have a better range vehicle they don't have to charge every two hours. It still costs to charge it unless the fleet base has solar and then they can't go more than 150km away from base, if that. Is $93K a misprint?

It is the eternal problem of EV's they take the lifetime of the vehicle to recoup the extra purchase price. I personally think its the EV makers profiteering from ignorance and limited supply - I don't buy the battery cost story and I buy batteries.

I am pretty sure it would take a very long time to charge from a standard home.
Not everyone has 3 phase power outlets.
