A little while ago, I made a video explaining why I thought Yamaha was really stopping sales of the R1 for the road. Now, they have announced the new 2025 Yamaha R9, and not only does it address many of the issues I pointed out, but it also looks like a great bike at a surprisingly low cost!

This is why the uk bike industry is going bust rider age, bike prices, cost of living. 44Teeth did a vid on it.

It is a great engine, love it in my XSR900 GP. You mentioned your Yamaha dealership has closed down, my local one has too... is a bit worrying to see so many dealerships struggling or going, especially when it is the big manufacturers that seem to be vanishing

R1 great bike back in the 90s early 2000 but on the road now, nah.

Personally, I’d like to see the R6 come back. No idea what knuckleheads in charge thought it was good idea to stop.

You put across great points about the R9; I still think 117bhp for a supersport is totally pathetic compared to all other brands. Even in motogp they can't make power it's like they have fully given up due to funding.

I have my 1290r since I was 24. If young riders wanna ride bike CC bikes at a young age. They'll need to put in the time & money. I had to pay for my licence twice, my A2 & A licence. I'd do it again aswell, only thing I regret is not doing my A2 at 19 instead of 21. That would mean I could get my A licence at 21 instead of 23. That just sit on a MT-07 for a few more years, getting more NCB & experience. I sold my MT-07 to pay for some of the bike. I still had to pay quite a bit off, i've almost paid it all off tho just over a year. my insurance is 110 a month. Was 78 but auto renew. If you want a big bike at a young age, save up money & buy an MT-07 or R7 on finance if you have a stable job or get something cheaper. Then put that money towards the bike you truly want when you can do the A licence. Looks like the V-TWINS will be the only powerful bikes to stay.

In Australia I'm predicting it will be a sales disaster. It's $24000 but you can get zx6r for 7k less. No thanks Yamaha.

Only old People can afford a luxury toy like the r1…. And the rest can’t get insurance for anything that is super sports.

Hopefully, Triumph will eventually realise there is a demand for a 3cy sports bike and bring out a 765 Daytona

@Spicy... assuming the R9 is all we think it will be, bringing cost new into the equation, would you go for the R9 or the GSX8R Suzuki?

Does that have a similar engine to the Tracer 900?

The space above the engine from the side looks weird. Like an old 50cc or 125cc.
I love the CP3 engine though, have it in my 2019 XSR900 so know how good it is.

It's literally a fully faired MT09, has the frame of the MT09 with a better subframe and better forks with clip ons

I’ve been wanting this bike for a few years, since I got my Mt09 but it’s a disappointment to be honest. Hate wings on anything bike and the available colours look crap, Yamaha missed an opportunity with this bike. I might forgive all that if I get to ride one, trouble is all the Yamaha dealers have closed down near me.

Really disappointing power for a 900cc bike !!!. Emissions killing new sports bikes.
Sad future for bikes
