What do you guys think, is 117 horsepower enough for a $12, 500 bike? Would you pick this over the 148 horsepower GSXR750?

117 is plenty of power to have fun? Bro. 40 is plenty have fun. 70 is plenty to get rowdy. 100 is plenty to off yourself. 117 is NOT a shortage of power

It’s always interesting when new bikes come out everyone wants more power, less weight, better suspension all at a cheaper price only to be disappointed 😂

Folks are talking fully and completely out of their asses about this bike. “It’ll never be an r1!” It isn’t trying to be. “ONLY 117 hp???” With a tune they’ll make about 120 to the wheel and 70 ft lbs, 55 ft lbs at 3k rpm. Bike weighs 430 wet so after exhaust and tidy it’ll be 415 or less. People have such a backwards sense of what is and isn’t fast. This bike will outride the majority of the people that pony up and throw a leg over one. It’ll be an excellent street bike, and the aftermarket is already huge for them. The biggest reason this exists is because Yamaha now puts this engine in 5 motorcycles. It’s making dividends on it R&D.

The only thing is it won't make the 4 cyl noises that makes my brain feel like remy in ratatouille when he eats the cheese and grapes.

GSXR 750 produces peak torque at 10800 rpm whereas R9 at only 7000 rpm. That is night and day if we talk about torque and throttle response for casual sport riding.

Call me crazy, but i hate the looks of those wings, this just not for me i see nothing amazing about it. I would much rather have a screaming ZX6R inline 4 for that price

Looks like I will be keeping my GSXR-750. Was waiting for the R9 for some time, but a year ago ended up buying the 750 after riding a 600 for the past five years. Tested a range of modern 2-cylinder bikes, but not for me especially after riding inline fours. The GSXR is a dream bike, power to weight, handling etc… Chief Road Tester, Michael Neeves raves about them. I feel that we need more sports bikes around the 135- 160 Hp with looks, tech, and character.

Torquey R9 I think will be a lot more relaxing than GSXR750 having its power at lower revs so if mid range grunt is your thing the triple will satisfy; but if sheer power at high revs is your thing, then its the traditional 4 pot screaming GSXR

Nothing comes close to a 1000cc inline 4. They’re definitely making the newer bikes more approachable for newer riders from what I can tell. I’ll stick to my 1k until I can’t get them anymore. The power is unmatched

The curious thing about mt09 is that on paper the horsepower doesn't sound that much, but in reality it's absolutely crazy bike. There's plenty of "evidence" on youtube. Now imagine adding better aero to it, it's gonna be insane. And of course it can be tuned to have 120-130 hp with some mods.

I have a 2015 R6 and my mate has a 2015 Mt-09 and I when I ride it I can't believe how great that engine feels. Don't understand all the hate to be honest, Ive ridden both bikes quite a lot and I'm tempted to buy the R9.

I feel like we’ve reached a notable point in time where comparing one motorcycle to another (or even cars at this point) based on “performance” metrics is moot.

Vehicles in general have come such a long way and are so damn good all around that it really comes down to getting what you like in terms of looks and feel.

Power really isn’t anything anymore. I recently had WAY more fun in a rental VW GTI than I’ve had in years in other vehicles. The feel, the sounds, the on-rails handling in such a daily friendly package mattered so much more than knowing that some schmuck in a V8 mustang could “beat me” in a silly street race between stoplights.

Buy what you like :)

i like the overall package of the R9, but Yamaha is playing damn safe.... if only they increase the compression ratio by a little bit + a little bit of aggressive cam timing, they could easily produce close to 140, but again, they are playing safe....

Brother, thanks for making this video . Please make supersports videos more often. Some YouTubers only been around for little time and gained so much popularity. You definitely deserve a lot more followers since you have been around for a lot longer. Always enjoy your videos and stay safe.

As others have pointed out, I'm not sold on the look of the winglets.

I think it's very well capable of making more but due to regulations, it's highly restricted, so a tune and some mods will give you good gains

3:57 "The old R6 was pushing out around 117 hp so you would expect an R9 to push out 140 hp"

... why would you ? Because it has more displacement ? Did you expect the R7 to push out 130 hp too, just because 700 > 600 ?

People, please use your brains and understand peak hp is not directly correlated to displacement. Many more things to consider. The R9 is a 3-cyl with a ton of torque. Not an inline-4 making power at 15k rpm.

The only problem with this bike is I gotta wait till April to pick mine up

This bike will compete perfectly in the British Supersport championship, now they allow bigger horsepower for less cylinders, the old R6 can’t compete with the Triumph 765 and the Ducati 890 v2 this triple will now shine in race results especially once its remapped and beefed up all round
