What To Expect When Moving Your REAPER Configuration To A New System

I've had a lot of people asking about this recently, so I hit record as I prepared my laptop with an updated reaper config before a mobile recording session.

- portable install on OSX
- copying settings
- fixing screensets
- temp file paths
- fx folders
- media explorer

The session went perfectly running REAPER and recording the band onto the USB flash drive.

Super cool! I've always just used the "export configuration" option in the general preferences, installed Reaper and SWS on the other machine, then imported the preferences. I ran into the same issues you did, and had to modify some of my keyboard shortcuts (I was switching between Windows and Mac), but for the most part everything translated rather well.

Thanks a million Jon. I am going out of town and will be preparing for this to use my settings and config for another machine. I am going to test if I can do this from MacOS to Win 7 later today. I am hopeful that I can accomplish a one to one congruity

hey jon I did a portable copy onto a 1Tbyte drive with all the files(except plugins but including the dll files) and it is loaded and the tracks scroll but it always says offline as I am running it from my external SSD drive. any suggestions, , I mean, , positive ones that don't include a lobotomy?

I'm trying to install REAPER on an external 1 tera byte drive and transfer all the necessary data to utilize that drive as my operating drive. I did a portable install but it didn't capture any plugins or templates/previous projects, and probably other stuff I need on the external drive. Forgive my novice level but I'm trying to use the SSD external to increase my data rate to accommodate midi controller and reduce latency. Is this the only or most efficient way of doing this?

Is there a way to make this work between A Mac and PC?  I find myself working on both quite often and if I could combine both formats and have them run off of the same files on a single portable hard drive that would be spectacular!
