Grandad told a story of WWII. Swam in the Rhine River. He met a Swedish girl and damn near stayed and married her but he missed his mom and pop so he came home. A few months later he met my grandmother, married and had 4 kids(one being my pops).

My mom was my dad's pretty Fraulein. They met in Germany after WWII. Dad passed in 69. Mom last year. Dad being a soldier and mom being a war bride has always made this song special to me.

My father named me after this! But the registration misspelled it so I'm "Fraulien" instead of "Fraulein". But I love it!!!!❤❤

My father who was 90 just passed away this past Saturday. This was his favorite song. I was able to pull it up on my cell phone and play it for him at the funeral home. He wanted no service but I played this for him and kissed him goodbye on his forehead. He was a POW from WW2. Love you Daddy, from your daddy's girl.

There were many GI's who miss the pretty Freulein's after they came back to the US. Some even married their Fraulein and some Freulein's were left behind heart broken.

This song came out of the era when country singers knew what they were doing. A great job on this song, from the great '50's.

I remember going to the local tavern as a youngster..every Friday night at just about 10pm the band would invite a fellow from the crowd to come up and sing this song..
Now there was a bunch of WWII vets that came in..and the women folks would casually wander off to the bathroom or outside to maybe twist one up..(c'mon it was the 70s)..
But anyway these old-timers would sit and listen..their eyes all misty.. a few clearing thier throat..you would even see a hankerchef or 2..
When the song was over they'd get recomposed..and their wives would drift back in...
Like nothin ever

At my wedding 13 years ago this was the song I danced to with my Dad. He's passed away now. Every time I hear this song, I get tears in my eyes, but a smile on my face.

I'm 17yrs old. But I like this song, and other old songs. How I wish my generation's music would be like this. :( I like to thank my grandparents for introducing me to this. ^^

This is Bobby's best song. It's terrific. Made his fame with "Jingle Bell Rock", but this is beloved.

I asked to be stationed in Germany because of this song. I lived in Mainz and Mannheim, both on the Rhine. I was there during deactivation and it was a sad day for me to leave.
