Updated: The famous GUM Department Store in Moscow (ГУМ), overlooking Red Square. An iconic shopping centre with the amazing Gastronom #1, Stolovaya 57, and hundreds of high end stores. Plus everyone has to get an ice cream cone from GUM, Russian ice cream or мороженое 'morozhenoye' is so tasty (enjoyed year round). Finishing the day on Nikolskaya Street with the beautiful hanging lights. A mix of old nostalgia and new traditions, one of the top things to do when in Moscow, Russia.

My first trip to Moscow/Russia decades ago, we went to the Kazansky train station for our trip to Rostov-On-Don. Walked toward the food court area at back of station. And what did I see, a sign in Russian that was Baskins Robins! I was shocked? Only McDonalds was there first before them. Way before Burger King, KFC etc. Imagine eating a B.R. black cherry ice cream cone in down town Moscow. My wife and her daughter loved it. They didn't know B. R. was ice cream. They had never heard of it. For your information, when you enter Red Square, GUM is the huge building to your left. Across from Lenin's tomb. When you first see Saint Basils onion dome church, look to your left, that's GUM.

The store, as a market place under the glass roof was opened in 1893, long before the Soviet era. So it’s a true Russian store.

The atmosphere of the GUM in Moscow looks sad. Lacking in vibrancy. The cheese and caviar look really good though. Very high class.

On the section the torte it shows all 'bullish' torte looks like an American birthday cake from the 50s no sign of the for example of the pavlova torte which is worlds famous and it is taste delicious...
It is at least make me feel more secure to know they change all decoration to the us taste and when they are gone they put back he CIVILIZED ONES

Gum is most expensive shop in Moscow. If you want, you can buy all the goods fron there in 1/10 of it price in GUM in other stores.

Wow. What a difference since I was last there in 1990. Then it was still Soviet times. Everything was cheap and tacky.

Restaurant Number 57 is a good cheap place, (for Moscow) to eat. Only cheap establishment in Gum. 3rd floor. While at Gum, hold on to your wallet. Holy crap expensive stores.
