Each form of the Azurill-Marill-Azumarill line has a smaller tail, because they're absorbing the nutrients within as they grow. That poor Azurill is now completely unable to evolve.

Another fun fact: after the battle, Vanessa comes up behind Jeremy and is holding a Flareon. According to the Pokedex, Flareon is one of the most huggable pokemon ever due to the combination of it's soft and fluffy fur, great sense of companionship, and its ability to regulate and control its own body temperature so that you're always feeling however warm or not warm you want.
