If you are thinking of getting a password manager, you are in the right place. Since in this video, I am going to do a Bitwarden vs 1Password review and determine which of these best password manager contenders is worth getting.

🔐 Security comparison 🔐

Both providers are safe and offer robust security features. It has industry-standard and virtually unbreakable AES-256 encryption. Moreover, any best password manager will have a zero-knowledge policy, and these two are no different. Looking at the must-have security practices, they also both have 2FA. However, 1Password can offer a secret key for an extra layer of protection.

🔑 Password generating 🔑

Both providers can create strong passwords with customizable length, uppercase, and lowercase letters in just a few moments. In addition to that, 1Password has a pass-phrase system and a pin number. Bitwarden has a pass-phrase option as well, however, it lacks a pin number generator.

🔎 Account recovery options 🔎

1Password offers an Emergency kit PDF document. You can also set up emergency access if you’re on 1Password Family plan.

With Bitwarden it’s a little bit different. When you set up your two-factor authenticator, you get a recovery code. In addition, you can set up a master password hint or just enable emergency access.

🔦 Password sharing 🔦

1Password excels at sharing passwords. It allows me to create a customized link for shared information with a recipient list. Moreover, you can share entire vaults if you have a Family plan.

Bitwarden’s password sharing is limited in comparison. With a free plan, you can’t share passwords at all, while Premium accounts can only share passwords with one other user. You’ll need to upgrade to Families to share passwords with up to 6 users.

✏️ Extra features ✏️

1Password has a unique Travel Mode feature. It allows me to mark vaults as travel-safe. This means that when I leave the country, the vaults that are not travel-safe will remain locked for security.

Now Bitwarden doesn’t have anything really that unique, but I like their breached databases report. With that, I get notified about exposed, reused, or weak passwords, as well as unsecured websites or inactive Two-step logins

Final thoughts ➡️

Bitwarden is more affordable and a true contender for the best free password manager. However, 1Password has more variety of polished features and an extra layer of security. Therefore, personally, 1Password wins. But ultimately, I can recommend both of these managers as it really depends on individual needs and preferences.

Bitwarden auto fills with ctrl-shift-l. In my opinion this is better than overlaying a icon into the password field. Overlaying sometimes messes up the field's own autofill

Great video and I use the program Bitwarden. Note: Under Win 11 perfectly with all browsers, but Pixel 6 with Android 14 no autofill with Chrome (Firefox works perfectly). Therefore not a full recommendation on my part.
