1 Grenadier of the 9th Waffen-SS Panzer Division Hohenstaufen and 2 Wehrmacht soldiers guard 2 British Paratroops from Lt Col Frost’s 2nd Battalion on a captured Jeep outside of the Musis Sacrum, in the center of Arnhem after Frost’s men lost the northern end of Arnhem Bridge on the 20th September 1944.

The location today is in the heart of a very busy city and the road intersection is exceptionally busy making the direct comparison impossible. This is also made harder by the trees that have now grown up masking the building from the road!

Knowing the story from the Bridge Too Far movie makes this real. This picture held in your hand puts this place in perspective. These men were my fathers age. It’s not that long ago and yet seems ages ago. We forget because we don’t learn from history. Thank you

Rather then Defeat at Arnhem I would call it Monty's Big Plan Flops. 1 Para performed above and beyond what should have been possible and deserve credit for the actions.
