While on Crete I walked the gorge of Deliana- φαράγγι Δελιανών. Pretty much as soon as we got to the summit of the path at about 575 meters we started spotting these birds. Our guide told us they are called Griffin Vultures.
The vultures appeared to keep an eye on us, circling about for our entire journey. We did see them fly in and out of small caves in the rock face of the mountains here and we think that they had babies that they were protecting, although quite frankly there's no way I could see to scale these mountains without some kind of technical equipment. Still, it was an interesting sight. And at last count I think there were eight altogether.
