A WiFi repeater or extender is used to extend the coverage area of your WiFi network. It works by receiving your existing WiFi signal, amplifying it and then transmitting the boosted signal. With a WiFi repeater you can effectively double the coverage area of your WiFi network - reaching far corners of your home or office, different floors, or even extend coverage to your yard. A WiFi repeater is a type of network booster that expands the range of your WiFi signal. It has antennas that receive a WiFi signal from your router, just like your smartphone or laptop. Then it rebroadcasts that signal over a wider area.

A WiFi extender is a type of WiFi booster that extends your main router’s internet signal to another location. It connects to your home network via an Ethernet cable or coaxial cable. Basically, it’s like adding another router to any WiFi “dead zone” in your home.

How does it work?
A Wi-Fi extender works by connecting to a router through Ethernet or coaxial cable. It does not amplify or strengthen the Wi-Fi signal. It only extends the coverage area of the Wi-Fi signal by getting connectivity directly from the router. It broadcasts its own signal through external antennas present. It is not rebroadcasting, and hence, it is more like having another router at your place. Since it transmits its own signal, it has its own Wi-Fi network name(SSID).

In a Wi-Fi repeater, the disadvantage is the reduction in bandwidth by 50%. However, with Wi-fi extender, there is no such reduction in bandwidth as it connects to the router via wire. As a matter of fact, there is also no more weakening in the transmission of signal from router to extender due to the presence of thick walls or wave interference.

If you have already bought the router, you need to check its coverage area and find out the dead zones. The dead zones are places where the signal strength is almost zero, and the internet connection is very slow.

My preferred solution is to use a separate access point. You can have multiple APs if you wish. These are wired to your network and many support Power over Ethernet.

Wifi repeater connects to you but when it connects to you in 1 bar,
The speed of 1 bar is sending to your place although wifi repeater gives you 5 bar but you only have a speed of 1 bar from the host

I want to order online a mifi boaster(repeater), Those ones they usually plug on a socket. I want to use it to boaster weak signal on my mifi. What I like to know is: must they plug the mini mifi repeater in a socket before they can use it and must their be electric charge (current) on the socket or you can used it in a non power socket(i.e a socket without current flowing on it)
