I stay at Hyatt, they do the same thing. I take full advantage of the point system. I book off season, most of the time.

After a year, say that even though i spend 10, 000, it's really only 3, 500 for lodging at the end of the year because of being frugal with what hotels i choose, how i use points.

I also travel a lot, and I spend very little on travel lodging overall. Im now the top-tier globalist, so i have 4pm checkout and free breakfast.

If you travel a lot and are not boujie, you can end up coming out ahead. 🙏

Marriott's primary customer is big business. When you fly thousands of employees to various locations daily its more convenient to the company to stick with one or a few super chains. That's the reason they can continue hamfisting in fees even after the fact that they're already more expensive than surrounding hotels from smaller chains - they're playing the same balancing act with corporate beancounters as the healthcare industry does with insurance.

Ngl, $35 a day for food isn’t that bad if you’re on vacation. And hotel food at 5 star hotels isn’t actually that bad. If it can be used at the bar, it’s kind of cool, imo.

Still dumb that you have to use it all at the Marriott. I’d like to try the local food while I’m out.
