Three main reasons why people hate the update:

1. PSN is region locked. VPN is against ToS. People already got banned from it.
2. Sony has a long history of data breaches, too frequent to trust. It's an unnecessary liability.
3. A PSN account on top of a Steam account is just bloat that provides no benefit.

Edit: my problem with this update is reason 1. Steam denied my refund. I now have a 35$ game that I can't play. Nice. This should be illegal. No different from scams.
