Our Story:
We are Carissa, Iwan & Frankie the sausage dog, and in 2020 decided one night over a bottle of wine that moving from North Wales to Portugal would be a good idea. Within a month we were on the road to Portugal to find the perfect piece of land to call home. We picked up Albi, Joao and Simao the cats along the way, as well as Diogo the podengo and a flock of chickens.

Subscribe to follow our project as we turn an old stone barn into our home, and learn the ropes of looking after a piece of land to make an abundant garden and one day, our very own winery.

Well that was the first time I’ve ever seen a man go down in a well to rescue a rooster .I’ll bet those chickens are glad to have him home tonight 😊

Clarissa do you still have problems with mites on your chickens? My brother has a lot of chickens and supply local supermarkets with fresh chickens. For chicken coop:
Mix 2 cups of water
1 tablespoon dishwashing liquid
1 cup of cooking oil and shake well each time before use.
Use the spray for a whole week on your coop. This will suffocate and kill any mites living in your chickens home.
Dust bath area:
Add wood ash to the dust bath area.
Sprinkle wood ash from old fires onto the coop floor from time to time.
Chickens roll in this and the ash tends to smother mites on the feathers.
Make spray:
1 tablespoon crushed garlic
1 teaspoon of clove powder or thime and
2 cups of lukewarm water. Spray the chickens twice a week.
In 30 years my brother has never been mites on his chickens.
