DD 453-T runs away! So the story is that the rack gets stuck on the valve cover. The guy (quick thinking) stuffs a rag in the turbo inlet and came close to losing his fingers too Word has it that he messed up his new turbo compressor wheel, luckily for him that was the only damage!

youre pretty much fucked if you encounter a runaway on your diesel. You really have to cut the air off or fuel somehow and thats all you got.

Oh man it started to run away fast! What was it bad seal? At least you got to it quick. The blades on the turbo got fucked up when you stopped it?

Looks to me like the rack got stuck wide open. Wasted the impeller on the turbo with the rag but saved the engine. Good, quick thinking. These old 2-stroke Detroits have a pretty bad rep of doing that and I've have 2 run away on me. (A 6v92 and a 4-53T.) very scary experience and most people become a bit dumb at that point haha. But nice going, saved a damn good little motor
