DJI Phantom 2 Vision RTF

Our first testflights with the DJI Phantom 2 Vision RTF. This model is our demoversion and does not include all functions. Still it does impress!

Because the max range is straight line of sight with no walls or obstructions of 300m or (984 feet) our testing showed only a lag time of 0.04 to 0.08 seconds.

Remember just about everybody streams video to their PC's, laptops and tablets through their home wifi router through walls and other obsticels without buffering so line of site outdoor signals are actually much easier to stream video.

I believe you have to select either still or video. Not both at the same time. You can selevt jpg or RAW in settings. I'll upload a video comparing the GoPro and Vision soon.

It dempends on what kind of video you need. You will always have some movement when not using a gimbal. For many purposes a little movement is no problem. :) In my recordings you'll see it's quite stable also without gimbal.

It has both red blinking frame on screen and beeptones on batteryalarm.
I used it on Android, but I believe you can use any IOS version(not sure).

I’m debating bt. the “proven” Phantom 1 vs. upgraded Vision vs Phantom II (nervous about the horror stories of DJI’s poor quality control though).

• Is the Vision’s lack of a stabilizing gimbal a deal-killer for anything approaching “serious” video?

No. Unfortunately it's not possible to aim the cam directly down, and no there is no zoome. Please note this is a demoversion. It maght be changes on the final version.

Hey, were you guys able to aim the camera directly down? I need perpendicular aerial footage for my artwork and I can't seem to tell if the Vision camera will aim directly down like my set up with the Sony RX 100 ii on the original Phantom. Also is there zoom on the camera? Thanks for the awesome video, I will post it to some forums now.

• What video quality and frame rate options do you have?
• Can you disable Auto-Exposure (so it doesn’t get bright/dark/bright/dark/etc. when more/less of the sky comes in to play?
• How do the lens flares compare to GoPro Black?
• What range of motion can you rotate the camera? Pointing straight down to???

I'm wondering how the DJI all-in-one survives a crash.  Does the camera explode with the unibody frame when it falls uncontrollably from the sky?  What happens when you go out of FPV range and forget that your battery was running low?  Does it autoland in the trees well?

• Can you set threshholds for various alarms (esp. low battery and distance)? Does it text-to-speak the alarms or beep tones?
• Does the iPhone app require a certion IOS version, o rcan we use “old” iphones to fly it (eg, iPhone 4 or 4s)?

• When you recording video, and click the still shutter, does it interrupt the video (ie, can you take stills without interrupting the video)?
• Do you have any control over the still image settings (ie, Shutter Speed vs. Aperture vs ISO)?
• Are the still images JPEGs or RAW?
• From your experience how does the fish eye distortion compare to the GoPro Hero Black?

• Since moving the camera is by relatively small target touchscreen buttons, did you find you had enough granular control for smooth, slow camera movements? Are you able to set "limits" on the vertical pan, so as not to get copter parts in the video?

• How does the return to home feature work? When you are flying in an obstacle filled area, can the vision be set to ascend to X Feet (eg, 100 feet, above the trees), then fly directly back, and then descend? Or does it just fly straight back at whatever altitude it was, hitting trees, wires, fences, buildings, etc.? What if your flying BELOW where you started (eg, you're on top of a hill) - does it ascend to the starting altitude and then come back?

• Can you adjust the sensitivity of the flight controllers (ideally on a log scale to allow small adjustments with the initial larger movements, escalating if you need to push a stick all the way in a direction to avoid an obstacle)?
