Join Scott Hanselman for an upbeat discussion about what's beyond mentorship.

What's the difference between mentorship and sponsorship and how does that build successful teams? What's the role of the senior engineer as a colleague to an early-in-career engineer? What's the difference between learning how to code and learning how to think about systems? What must we do to welcome the next generation of creators, and what are your responsibilities?

Let's facilitate a welcoming culture of learning and exploration and normalize not knowing the answer!

Gosh, I hadn't seen a presentation of Scott's in so long, but what a familiar face to have not seen for a while! What a natural story teller. A 'morale boost' to finding my way through my new-ish job. Thank you, Scott! A wonderful perspective to pick through and integrate.

I’m clapping virtually here man … that was so on the spot … Elon Musk should forget Twitter and focus on NeuraLink so we can scale Scott physically!

1:05:00 Ha! Omg I had exactly the same issue with a zoom recorder — the CMO was disturbed… and I ended up like you… sitting down on a Saturday and get exposed to the world of the FAT file system. And got the wav files out 😮‍💨 zoom seriously…

46:50 47:23 WTF didn't anybody laugh at that ??? Such a stupid audience it was before a majestic, masterpiece of a tech guy. Scott. The person I look up to for last 7-8 years. An absolute gem from Microsoft. Love from Pakistan.

The best response, instead of "you're doing it wrong", is to say Hey, I noticed you do this thing, and when that happens with me it usually bugs me. Does this bug you? If they say no, end of conversation. If they say yes, you present a couple to a few solutions, and let them pick. It's usually the easiest way to make it work good. They learned, you shared, and no one did anything wrong in the process.

As a dev who’s shoved into operations, I’m spread so thin I couldn’t conceive of what gatekeeping looks like
