Our friends at Consumer Reports have come out with their annual list of best cars in every category. Here are the highest ranked cars in every segment, from compact cars to hybrids to sedans, sports cars, trucks and SUVs and CUVs.

Drove everything in the small SUV category and ended up with a 2017 Honda CRV EX-L. Great fuel economy, quiet, comfortable and the best bang for the buck of all. It is spectacular in any one area but does everything well. The Honda sensing suite is well worth the upgrade from the LX. Honda hit it out of the park with this one.

I test drove the Chevy Cruze hatch & Honda Civic hatch. Went with the Civic it was better then the Cruze.

The Ford F-150 with it's 3.5L ecoboost.. I'm getting 17-19mpg, plenty of power comfort and legroom, and it tows our 9500lbs travel trailer like an absolute breeze.. No regrets with this one

I just love the fact that Hyundai/Kia is starting to beat out the Japanese brands, hell even Chevy is doing it. Just shows that since the early 2000s, Honda/Toyota have taken the easy route to making cars and their quality and designs have really slipped since the glory days of the 90s.

the midsize suv shouldnt be the highlander. it should be the pilot! more fuel efficient, more power and more space!

Kia surely came a long way congrats. Everybody told me I was stupid when I bought my 2012 and 2013 soul. The same people are on their 3 car and my souls are still in excellent condition. Oil change and brake pads are my only expenses.

Thanks, very informative. I agree with the Chevy impala. I am a big car comfort guy. I always bought Chevy a few fords, but as I got older, it was Caddies, Buick, Oldsmobile, etc. I have 2 Buicks at present.

for my list i would pick up the kia nero, honda civic, nissan altima, chrysler 300, hyundai tucson eco, kia sorento, and the f150

Ford Fiesta SE and ST deserve top subcompact. Subjectively I think they are aesthetically the most beautiful, but it is undisputed that the Fiesta is the handling champion and driver’s subcompact regardless of drivetrain configuration.

Yeah, because it's an accord with a bed. hence, not a real truck. I don't know how many people will buy a fwd truck to drag their jetskis down the boat ramp. Be real, it's a car with a bed and shouldn't even be in the same category as the others as it is not nearly even remotely as capable.
