How I Use Movie Clips In My Videos - Fair Use

🟣 New Video: Know BEFORE you make public what you can get away with!

One of the most common questions I get asked is how I use movie clips in my videos. The short answer is Fair Use. It's a legal doctrine that allows us to use copyrighted material without the consent of the copyright holder under certain circumstances.

There are no hard and fast rules - it's a pretty grey area. However, there are some guidelines that will increase the odds of you not going to prison is you use just a tiny bit of End Game in your next YouTube video.

If you want a lawyer's opinion on this stuff, watch Ian Corzine's video:

The real danger to this video is you left out easily the most important thing to keep in mind: in many situations, if you sell anything related to your channel, you’re a commercial entity by many standards. Fair use does not apply. Bc everyone has a contingent right the second you start profiting from the fairly used clip. People missing this can ruin their lives

You explained better than YouTube's own video about FairUse...

Fair use is, "like a big bowl of wibbly wobbly..." I was just trying to find that episode last week! And now I've found it. Thank you!

Does this apply for Tv shows also because I want to make a compilation of videos for a Tv show that I like

Thanks for the video Trevor! I used this along with another video of yours to upload my first video with movie clips. I have a long ways to go, but this is a good start. Making the clips flow and not be awkward and distracting is harder than it looks!

If I upload a TV show to my YT channel will I get a copyright strike or claim?

Nice one for getting that down in seven and a half minutes with some great gags thrown in. I think most of us just want to make great videos and stay on the right side of YT legal team.

So if I plan to do a movie review, I should be allowed to use clips from the movie right?

I know u said that you never got copyright claimed, but do they still say copyright claim on them? And could I show movie clips as long as I keep it like less then like under 15 or 20 seconds?

This video is exactly what I was looking for to become educated.

My only questions : you mention in the video give credit in the description for the clips used, but in this video, the only thing I see in the description is “epidemic sound”. Is this sufficient credit or am I missing it?

I'm here because I plan to do a reenactment of my favorite movie scenes and then, post on YouTube.
