Good advice Tim, to sit infront of a camera for 1 hour 20 minutes and practically talking non stop is not easy, well done.

Tim’s dropped some great pearls of wisdom here… Unfortunately many Expats take their health for granted. I hear it too often, Expats flippantly remarking ‘Oh they can just cremate me when I’m done!’. When in realty it’s family members back home that have to pick up the pieces… Your idea of assisted living in Thailand for Expats Tim would be an incredible and lasting legacy you could leave behind. It would truly be one of a kind! ❤

I had health insurance for many years. In all those years I had one claim. I had appendicitis. It was covered with no problems. When I turned 65 years old the insurance company priced me out. You will not be able to find any reasonably priced policies even if you are able to find a company that will insure you.

Thank you. Thank you. And thank you. Retired at 68, living solo here in Thailand, many things to consider. Many things I've ignored. Many things. Thank you.

This is one of those tough, challenging conversations that we need to have. Thank you for putting it out there front and centre.

A very positive philosophy that you shared. Thanks for the reminder.

The main issue with UK pensions is a lack of parity. In the UK you get the cost of living rises automatically. In certain countries if you have emigrated then you also get the rises automatically, but other countries your pension is fixed with no rises at the point when you retire. So that's the main gripe for Brits. If you spend 6 months in any of the countries that do qualify for the increases then they have to raise your pension to current levels, Philippines is probably closest for raising your UK pension. 6 month holiday there and give the UK gov the middle finger.

Excellent work, Tim. This is arguably your most important broadcast yet. I hadn't thought about the 'very end' of retirement here. I'm now 57. In the 2 years I've lived here, I haven't met anyone I could depend on, regarding PoA.
I've always said, I dont want to live to 100. Another 25 healthy years will do for me.
If it's still available, and hopefully I'll have my faculties, I intend to fly to Switzerland, and check in to an 'assisted departure' facility...

I spend a lot of time in a small northern Thai city. If it weren’t for a passion for reading, a music hobby, and an interest in learning Thai language, I would be bored stiff. I think you are on point that for many people lazing on the beach may be fun, but most will get bored after a time.
Incidentally, from the eastern US, the more ‘affordable’ flights to Thailand involve connections that run to a 30+ hour trip.

My great grandfather and grandfather had a chain of jewellery shops in London going back at least 180 years. Unfortunately my father had no interest in his business. My father was born in 1900, he was 52 when I was born. He lived in Australia in the 1930’s and 40’s and was a gold prospector, he made enough money to open a grocery store in Melbourne. When his mother died he moved back to the U.K. and was in the army, navy and airforce in both world wars too!

One of your best and most informative videos to date and for 1 hour and 20 minutes you didn’t have to use the rubber duck. 🙏

If you can't afford travel insurance probably best to consider retiring back home. Honestly once you hit 70 you're better off at best splitting your time back in your country and travel abroad. Too many things can go wrong and you'll need regular checkups too.

Having a government pension in Canada I notified them I was living abroad. Tax on my pension was increased by 5% and depending on yearly income that 5% can be reclaimed at the end of the tax year.

Health insurance may be an important topic with the retirees, while a recent trend is the increasing number of travellers getting medical treatment done in Thailand. The same is too expensive in their Western home countries. Dental care is far less expensive in Thailand compared to Australia where the Medicare don't cover it.

Thanks 🙏 Tim, for bringing this important topic for expats to the fore. For me, any future options to improve retirement living, including health insurance and sorting out a credible power of attorney option for single expacs without family support would be very welcome. I may even consider retiring in thailand in the future. Im currently 58 and I've also been creating a similar plan/budget to carry me to deaths door, though a more conservative 90 years. I can't imagine what state I'm likely to be in at 90 let alone 100. Your content is terrific. Thankyou 🙏

Hi Tim, how about learning to speak the language and consume the local produce.. This helps you both financially and can create a more relaxed, fulfilling retirement
