Just replace the word 'Smart' with 'Surveillance' and you will have a more accurate representation of what they want to achieve

The answer is pretty simple: starts as a brave new world and it ends as a very bad nightmare. On the most surface level, tech is making humans more incapable of doing simple tasks, ultimately bringing the human value to an all time low. Enter singularity...

In his book 1984 George Orwell didn't call them "smart cities". He called it Big Brother.

This looks like something you’d see in a sci-fi dystopia/utopia

People don't need cities think for them. People need to learn to think by themself.

This reminds me of when they started introducing "The eyes in the sky." They made us feel like it was all for our best interest and were to keep us safe.

I like this. I won’t have to think. They will think for me. Thinking is hard so I’m leaving it to them.

Nevada passed law allowing tech co's to start equal local gov's for smart cities: courts, police, taxes. Concerns: Can democracy truly exist in a smartcity if centralized corporations control all data in/out? What about self censorship? Personal autonomy possible? I am concerned of the Human Rights risks. Big risks. No 'undo' button.

Technology such as shown here has the potential of doing what it says and much more. However it comes at a cost: Privacy. With a government such as we have in Washington DC and in my home city of Long Beach California, I'd be pretty scared about this. Particularly now that facial recognition software is so prevalent — at least in areas of high security such as airports — I worry that under the right (or wrong) government, we can end up like in China. Thank you but let's fix the government so that it's of the people, by the people and for the people first. Then let's do the rest.

Only issue is that this is a vision of the world by the elite for the elite. Also China gives us a cautionary tale about "smart cities". It was exciting at first but then it just turned into a data mining industry project -_- Talk about taking something great and turning it into something lame.
