Outdoor by ISPO or Outstanding Outdoor

Outdoor by ISPO is the new outdoor tradeshow that is held this year for the first time in Munich. Previously the Outdoor tradeshow – NOT ISPO - was held in the German town of Friedrichshafen on the shores of the Bodensee. Like the winter ISPO – have a look at the video I did on that one by following the link below this article – the Outdoor jury meeting was inside and more of a static one. At least this is what I heard; I was never part of this jury but I am already a jury member of the Scandinavian Outdoor Award that is held twice a year and always outdoors!

This time the Outdoor by ISPO jury meeting was really outdoors in Annecy, France. On the Lake of Annecy, at the campsite at its shores near Doussard and high in the mountains around the Sambuy peaks we tested the outdoor gear that was send in by manufacturers for the Outdoor by ISPO Awards.

The testing, the meetings, the discussions and fierce debates all accumulated in the last week at the Outdoor by ISPO tradeshow in Munich. I made a video on the products I liked and some of them won an Award. I also know that I forgot some; I am just a one-man show and that is not always easy. I will make up with them later in reviewing their gear. Hope you enjoy the video!

thanks for doing this extensive review of things you found interesting! great to see how different people tend to gravitate towards different experiences on the show - i mostly hang around the Borderlands expo in hall B4 and did a number of interviews and features with more urban stuff.
I have to look into the 7Mesh Slab shorts for my own cycling - allthough i mainly use my bike for only up to 10 km short trips, having an almost seamless construction makes the ride so much more comfortable, i guess.
ADIDAS Parley seems to be a stride in the right direction - didnt talk with adidas about the program myself yet, but getting the plastics economy more and more circular is very important for our health and climate, so every effort in this direction is great. still hard to determine, which boundaries of the companies' efforts are set by greed/greenwashing and which are set by actual physical limitations of the machinery ... i cant comprehend the complexity of the manufacturing process, though, and only learn more and more about how complex the whole clothing/apparel/gear industry is. there is much to learn in the regard.
also saw the fjallräven pants in the award winning section - really interesting construction.
really like your small section about the vibram sole. I spoke to vibram too, noting down any knowledge they were able to share with me about rubber chemistry and sole/lug design. As i really loved your comprehensive review about hiking boot construction - do you want to do a collaborational video about shoes with me some day? I would love to team up with you to explain more about shoe construction and the chemistry in shoes with the viewers. lets talk about that via mail :).

Did you visit the Borderlands section at least once? they had so much innovation there!
