Ferry dock collapse in Georgia leaves at least seven dead

At least seven people have died after part of a ferry dock collapsed in Sapelo Island, Georgia. An investigation is underway. NBC’s Jesse Kirsch reports for Sunday TODAY.

I was there. It was a horrible tragedy. I had just made it on the ferry before the collapse. For those who are asking if they couldn’t swim. The people who actually died were elderly, some using walkers. The current was very strong. They didn’t have the strength. A lot of comments on this video and others are so unnecessary and downright crude. Just know that it was a very tragic event and people are traumatized and grieving. Prayers and compassion please.

Not being mean but I really don't think there is any mystery at all why this collapsed. Twenty or more people, that's almost 4000 pounds, two tons. The average weight of an adult in the United States is 199.8 pounds for men and 170.8 pounds for women. Look at what collapsed, there is no way that span was designed for two tons, it was simply overloaded.

I wonder if obesity was a factor. Look at us back in the 40s, 50s up to now. Our American people got bigger. Look at EVERYTHING cars, , 3 times heavier than gas cars. The parking garage collapse issues lately and in the count of vehicles they estimate just under half of them were EV in those issues
