At least seven people have died after part of a ferry dock collapsed on Sapelo Island.

Pronounced SAP-uh-low Island. I was there today and narrowly escaped this incident by being on the ferry prior to this last one leaving for the day. Such a heartbreaking tragedy.

They probably started clinging to each other once in the water and dragged each other down and drowned. Sad that more care isn't done to stop overstressed weights limits not being correctly assessed and so many people standing on it like a South Side Chicago Balcony with 50 people on it.

Most of the docks/bridges post limits to the number of people.
Unfortunately many people today are obese & the size of 2-3 normal adults so the limits may need to be revisited.
Or maybe the visitors ignored the limits. 20 is a lot for a gangway.
