The Principles of Testing and Assessment

In this video, we introduce the basic theory and concepts of language testing and assessment. We then discuss how the theory and concepts are applied to the actual testing and assessment of language students.

In all fairness, though, I have to slightly disagree with your definition of WASHBACK.

It is not simply a feedback that the teacher provides after testing. It is the overall impact (positive or negative) that testing has on absolutely everything that happens in the classroom, including the content taught, the teaching practices and the learning behavior in general, learners’ motivation, etc. It affects the choices of teachers, learners, administration, curriculum design... pretty much everything and everyone. It may boost or (quite often) hinder accomplishments.

In my point of view, people blame negative washback on testing in general, whereas the real problem is lack of understanding about which test is “fit for purpose”, as well as IF, WHEN, and HOW tests should be administered.

Anyway, a lot to learn from this video, especially for novice teachers. :)
