Perhaps one of if not the best preserved modern day ghost towns is Kitsault located in remote northern British Columbia.

A small company owned mining town that once housed around 1200 residents and abandoned in 1983.

Since being bought in 2005, caretakers were hired to maintain and preserve the town.

They have worked tirelessly for almost 2 decades with the owners vision of one day reopening the town.

Trying to preserve a town in this remote area of Canada and for this long seems like an impossible task but they have done a remarkable job.

Most buildings and homes are constantly being repaired, yards maintained, roofs re shingled and more to keep it in this incredible state of preservation.

Most of the salvageable furniture and many more items were moved to the apartments some of which are still used today by guests staying the night, and by the caretakers that live and work in the town.

Many items from the buildings were brought to a single home in the residential area and turned into what is known as the museum.

The museum feels like you stepped into an incredible time capsule with a great collection of items from all around the town.

Having the chance to visit Kitsault is something I certainly won't forget.

To the caretakers and our guide Rob, Thank you for the amazing experience.

I had some extra footage from my trip to the ghost town of Kitsault that didn't make it into the original video and I thought some of you would enjoy a look at some of these extra treasures that the caretakers placed into one of the abandoned homes and turned into a little museum. Incredible place! I hope you enjoy and take care!

Awesome tour of the area. It was super neat to see all the items on display from the past. That old record player and tricycle were pretty neat. Brought back some memories from when I was a kid. Cool video, Wade. I love checking out these historic area. Have a great day.

It is good to see they are trying to save as much of the history of the town as possible. It looks like it could be brought back as a beautiful town. Music fitted the video.

I loved this little town of Kitsault. How nice that it’s history is being kept alive by the museum and that the town is being preserved for future generations to explore and enjoy.

*I think I've seen footage of this town before. I'm not sure if it was your channel or another. I found it fascinating that a town like this has basically become a giant "time vault". Thanks for the museum tour. 👍*

I think if Kitsault was reconnected to necessary infrastructure to run a town, it could be revived, don't you agree? It's location is pristine, and I would want to keep it that way, so that industry could not take it over and destroy it. I guess that depends on how close that town sits to natural resources still in the ground, yet to be mined out, to the detriment of the land and the people of that land. I think that should be a repopulation stipulation, and the homes be offered to the people of that land first, before outsiders were offered any spaces in it. So much indigenous land has been destroyed it would be an admirable deed to offer the land to those who need it and were there first.
